Interaction:

We'll generally be on hand to help with anything you need otherwise you will be left in peace to enjoy your stay.

Neighborhood:

Castle Cary is one of Somerset's jewels. The buildings are mainly beautiful honey-coloured Hadspen stone. The market town itself has a thriving heart of shops, pubs and restaurants. We feel privileged to live here.

Access:

The whole house is yours for the duration of your stay. We leave the key in the door for you so you can arrive when you like after 3pm.

Space:

The Hayloft dates back to the early 1800s when it was a farm-building. It is comfortably equipped, cosy and warm. Tucked away from the street it's a haven of calm yet only 2 minutes walk from the centre of town for any shopping needs. You're very welcome to use the top garden where there is a table and chairs for you to sit.

Transit:

Castle Cary is really well connected. The rail station is 15-20 minutes walk with fast trains to London Paddington, Exeter and beyond, Bath, Bristol and Weymouth. If you're coming by car the A303 is less than 10 minutes drive in either direction. There is off road parking on site for two cars. Two shops, the Coop and Mccolls, are open till 10pm each night with a good stock of the essentials. There are then two independent wine shops, a great delicatessen, and a super greengrocer so you can buy everything you need a short walk away.

Notes:

We supply the kitchen with basics of salt, pepper, sugar, tea, coffee and cooking oil. In addition, subject to availability we put in a pint of organic milk from the local Bruton Dairy, a bottle of cider and of apple juice (our own while stocks last!), eggs from our chickens (when they are laying), and butter from local farms. If you would like us to organise a simple, high quality home-cooked meal like Spaghetti Bolognese or Carbonara, Chilli con Carne, Lasagne, Sausage, chips and beans for you to finish cooking on your arrival please let us know. We can also supply other local food and drink on request including from our garden depending on the season.

We don't leave a printed "Welcome pack" in the property as it is easier to keep all information up to date digitally. There is decent phone reception and wifi in the house to access this information.

Beautiful property in a stunning village location, very relaxing stay on the small holding. Walking distance to the shops and pub, and lovely dog walks nearby. Would certainly stay again.

John is an amazing host - he responded very quickly and fully to any queries, including my rather obscure request about the cot mattress (which incidentally was lovely and soft - our daughter slept better than she does at home!). The hayloft is spacious, has everything you need and is perfectly located in the town centre for easy access to the enviable selection of shops and cafes in Castle Cary. If we were in the area in future we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

A perfect location for visiting the Somerset countryside and beyond. The property is secluded yet within the heart of the village and the interesting shops of Castle Carey. John provided some excellent recommendations.

A beautiful place to stay with exceptional hosts. Beyond the stunning decor, the property was spotless and the small touches such as leaving freshly laid eggs, bread and milk were much appreciated. We shall return!!

A great quiet little place backing on to fields, but right in the heart of Castle Cary. Super comfortable beds, so slept really well. Had amazing lunch at Osip in Bruton on John's recommendation. Thank you! You'll need to book well in advance, not cheap but totally worth it.

The Hayloft is a fantastic property to stay in. It is very clean and has tons of space - more than expected. The rooms are airy and very smart and the property has everything needed for a great holiday. The kids loved walking out to the garden and greeting the animals. The house was very private behind gates and a 2 min walk into Castle Cary High St which was lovely to visit. It was a great base to see some lovely sights. John was friendly and quick to respond to any issues. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Also, the TV has been updated since photos were taken!

Great cottage and location.Would recommend to anyone. Castle Carey has an excellent assortment of pubs that do good food so we never had to cook just staggered back and watched the World Cup!. All was clean and cosy with old world charm which would be to anyone's taste and the location was great to see all the places in that part of the world.Hosts were great too.
